Position Title: Extra Board Drivers
Lanier Brugh Corp, a US Mail contractor, is hiring for extra board positions in the Seattle area. The job requires a minimum of 2 years of verifiable tractor-trailer experience and a clean driving record with less than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years and a clean criminal record with no felonies in the last 10 years. You must be at least 23 years old and be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen for COL drivers.

Trips are paid on a flat rate averaging around $20 per hour. Full time is possible quickly at this time, as of April 25th we need a couple of full time drivers and a few extra board drivers. We expect more work to come in the next few months based on changes at the Post Offices.

The Labor Educator will work with Labor Center staff to plan and implement trainings and workshops with unions, community organizations, and campus programs. Some of the workshops the Labor Educator may be asked to facilitate include classes for union stewards, collective bargaining, leadership and communication, community-labor alliances, and organizing. The Labor Educator will do strategic outreach to the labor community to develop programs, and be a resource to faculty and staff at the Seattle Community Colleges.

The money for this position has come directly from unions and supporters through a fund raising drive led by the Washington State Labor Council. We intend to work hard in the next three years to see our public funding restored so that this position can be continued beyond the 3 years of union funding. The salary is $50,000 with full benefits.

The following is a summary of the general nature and level of work performed by the staff member in this position. This description is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.

Every employee at the Washington State Convention Center (WSCC) works closely with our visitors and guests. We hire employees who enjoy greeting, listening and responding to these guests. All work is done with a smile and each employee is responsible for making a good first impression and knowing the WSCC service standards. Consistently delivering quality service is our number one priority.


The successful candidate will assist the Event Services Department in fulfilling the needs of our guests and exhibitors at WSCC. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

* Individuals hired into this position must serve a probationary period of six months. During first 10 work shifts, the hourly wage will be 85 percent ($11.92) of the hourly wage listed above. Union membership is not required during the application process, but will be required within 30 days of the first day of employment. Education/Training
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and experience in a service or hospitality environment. Experience in assisting with traffic flow, including queuing vehicles, is preferred.

Experience/Skills
Use of strong customer service approach while maintaining tight schedules for traffic flow. Requires the ability to react calmly and productively in various situations and respond to multiple questions and inquiries in a professional, pleasant manner. Maintain a team-oriented, working relationship with co-workers, subcontractors, and guests. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules or operating and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence, count items, add and subtract two-digit numbers. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, guests, and clients. Ability to quickly interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
